Drummond Family grave at All Saint's graveyard, Penshaw
On 13th July 2009, I received an email informing me that Thomas Drummonds' headstone was lying face down and broken in All Saints church, Penshaw. I travelled to Penshaw on Tuesday 14th and had a look for myself. The headstone looks to have been in this position for a while and it is difficult to tell how it came to be in this position. A photograph of the damage is here.

I received a call back from local studies in Sunderland who were very sympathectic and gave me several numbers to try and create some interest. After making and receiving calls all day, I still have no solution. I intend to ring the Civic centre back as the graveyard is now 'closed' and in the care of the council rather than the church/diocese as I had believed.

I am hoping that a small band of strong men is going to turn the headstone back over. It will then be facing upwards so the inscription can be seen.
ReplyDeleteHi Katie!
ReplyDeleteI've got a photo of this tombstone before it fell to the ground. I thought I'd lost it, but I just found it again! I'm happy to share it with you. Send me an email... MonicaLynnMolinar@Gmail.com
Looking forward to chatting with you again - so sorry I wasn't able to get down to Florida when you were there last year!
Thanks!
Monica
